Port Canaveral, Florida - View Cruises Departing From This Port
Overview
Canaveral is a key cruise and cargo port located in Brevard County, Florida. Port Canaveral is the second busiest cruise port in the world. During 2004, over 4.5 million cruise passengers passed through the Port's cruise terminals. A superlative deep water port, Port Canaveral also has a high volume of cargo traffic. Over three million tons of cargo moves through Port Canaveral annually. In 1965, a lock was donated at the port. The Canaveral Lock is still in operation, and is preserved by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The focus of the port throughout the 1960s and 1970s remained fishing and shipping, with three 400-foot cargo piers built on the north side of the Port in 1976, and a chain of warehouses built in the port area. Expanding the Cruise capability of the port begun in 1982, two more warehouses were changed to cruise terminals in 1983. The subsequent year the SS Royale of Premier Cruise Lines was home ported at Port Canaveral. A fourth cruise terminal was opened in 1986.
Things To Do
The big event in Port Canaveral is the Sea Fest. The Sea Fest annual seafood festival was first held in 1983. The festival occurs over three days in early spring, and is co-hosted by the Cocoa Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the Canaveral Port Authority. A local attraction with live music, local artists, and of course seafood. In 2005 5,000 pounds of freshly caught fish, including flounder, blue crab claws and over 100 gallons of seafood chowder were devoured at the festival.

You can visit one of the most important sites in America, the Kennedy Space Center. Since the birth of space flight, John F. Kennedy Space Center has been at the head of America's ongoing quest in space. From here, NASA has launched brave astronauts and advanced spacecraft on courageous missions to Earth orbit, the moon and the universe beyond.
