San Martin is a region in northern Peru. Most of the region is positioned in the upper part of the Peruvian Amazon rainforest. The Huallaga River is the most important river in the region. It forms, together with its tributaries a hydrographical system which drains all of the territory. The Pongo de Aguirre is a canyon formed by the Huallaga going through the Andean hills.
You should visit the San Martin Museum. It contains photographic exhibitions, sculptures and craft, antiques, wild fauna, flora and traditional clothing from communities of the area.
