Show Reykjavik Sailings
Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, is Iceland's biggest port of call for cruise vessels. It has a population of about 115,000 people. The port authority have much success marketing the Icelandic capital for cruise vessel destinations and plenty of ships year round. It receives only four hours of daylight in winter, and in the summer the nights are almost as bright as day.
Things to Do
A great place to visit in Reykjavik is the 19th century Parliament House. This building also houses the Icelandic National Library and Antiquaries Collection. The University of Iceland also used the lower level of the building from 1911 up until 1940.
Hallgrimskirkja, which means the church of Hallgrimur, is the tallest building in Iceland. The building was named after a poet, Hallgrimur Petursson, who was best known for his musical talents.
Perlan, which means The Pearl, is a building which houses 4 water storage tanks. Another feature of the building is an artificial geyser, which pumps every few minutes. Mounted on the roof are small light bulbs which simulate stars when viewed from outside, and mirror glass windows which replicate the Northern Lights.
