Overview

Baltra is a flat, small island that forms part of the Ecuadorian archipelago of the Galapagos. This island is not a part of the National Park and there is almost no wildlife, but after establishing two airports, Baltra became the gateway to the islands and now serves a vital function to the Galapagos.

Activities
  • One of the most tranquil beaches is Tortuga Bay. You can swim, snorkel, kayak, and hike, or just relax in the sun. There are a lot of opportunities to observe wildlife on this shore.
  • If you ever feel like hiking, the trail to Los Gemelos is your best bet. Los Gemelos are two sinkholes hidden in the forest and home to a multitude of wild birds like the short-eared owl.
Family Friendly
  • The Charles Darwin Scientific Station has contributed to the preservation of the Galapagos wildlife. Here you can see the Giant turtles scientists are making efforts to save as well as other small animals.
  • Puerto Ayora is a small city with a perfect beach town feeling. It is very laid back but full of fun restaurants and activities to explore.
