Arequipa is a city inPeru. It is the capital of the Arequipa region. It is also the second most populous city in Peru. The city's nickname is "la ciudad blanca" because many of the colonial era buildings are made from pearly white colcanic rock. Arequipa is the third most visited city after Cuzco and Lima. The historic center of Arequipa was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, Arequipa is the second most imdustrialized city in Peru.
