Overview

Oslo is the capital city of Norway, with an estimated population of 537,000. Oslo has been Norways capital since 1299. Nowadays it is the nations largest city. While most of the forests and lakes surrounding Oslo are in private hands, there is great support for not developing it. Parts of Oslo suffer from clogging, yet it is the only European capital where people live with the wilderness literally in their back yard, that allows the city's many hikers to simply step off the train and start walking. Oslo is the chief port for sea services to and from the European Continent and England. The greater part of the half-million population lives along the coast and on the hundreds of nearby islands. According to The Economist, Oslo is the most expensive city in the world to live in, passing up Tokyo.

Things to Do

Oslo has so many things to do the worst part of being there is there is not enough time to do them all. One stop you should make is at the Norwegian Folk Museum. It is the country's oldest and biggest folk museum.

Another popular museum is the Vigeland Museum. The museum's key attraction is a dark, barrel-vaulted room, completely covered with fresco paintings.
