Ishigaki is a city located in Okinawa, Japan. Ishigaki is the only city in the Yaeyama Islands that functions as the business and transport center of the archaic. Ishigaki Airport is the largest airport in the Okinawa and Japan's largest third-class airport. As of 2004, the city has an estimated polpulation of 43,769. The city was founded on July 10, 1947 Japan administers the disputed Senkaku as a part of Ishigaki City. A tsunami of epic proportions occurred on Ishigaki island in 1771.
