Overview

Mayreau is the smallest populated island of the Grenadines with a population of about 300 residents. The population is located in Old Wall village, on a hilltop in the southwest of the island. It is an secluded community, and all electricity is provided by separately owned generators. Mayreau also has a small resort area on Saltwhistle Bay. St. Vincent and the Grenadines were ceded to Great Britain. Monsieur de L'isle however, was allowed to keep possession of Mayreau. The main source of revenue and export was cotton. With the exception of 22 acres which was sold to a Canadian family and the village (21 acres) which was acquired by the government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Mayreau remains privately owned by the Eustace heirs.

Things to Do

Take a dive into the Mopian Reef and see all the different types of species of coral. Also see the types of fish that take refuge in reef covered areas.

Go to Salt Whistle Bay. This tropical bay and its beach are sheltered from forceful Atlantic waters and it makes for very calm and safe waters.

The most well known bar on the island is Dennis' Hideaway. And with the size and location of this island it is a hideaway.
