Overview

Varna is the third largest city in Bulgaria with a population of about 352,000. It is the capital of Varna Province and a key port in the eastern part of the country, located on the Black Sea coast close to Lake Varna. The city was named Stalin after the Soviet leader for a brief period from 1949 to 1956. Varna, the biggest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast is commonly referred as the Sea Capital of Bulgaria.

Things to Do

The Dolphinarium is an aluminum and glass building in the northern part of Varna seaside park . Inside you can enjoy the Dolphin show in which they do acrobatics, balance, and dances. For about 30 minutes you will be in a world of dolphins – full of emotions and surprises. In the pleasant atmosphere of the Dolphinarium café you can watch dolphins play underwater, doing tricks, or just staring at you.

Another great place to visit is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. This structure was built in the 19th century and contains carved iconostasis and the bishop's throne. Also beautiful stained glass and mural can be found within the Cathedral.
