Overview

Catania is the second largest city of Sicily and is the capital of the province which bears its name. With a population of 307,000, it has the second highest population density on the island. It is located at foot of the active volcano Mount Etna. The city has been buried by lava a total of seven times in recorded history, and in layers under the present day city are the Roman city that preceded it, and the Greek city before that.

Things to Do

Mt. Etna is one of the main tourist attractions here and is also the highest mountain with an elevation of 10,990 feet. It is the oldest and the most active volcano in Europe.

Visit Catania's Street Market when you visiting the area. Here you can find crafty items, food, and a lot of street activity. Also a flea market, you can always negotiate for the price that you want. A very entertaining site.
