The port of Puerto Montt was founded on February 18, 1853 by Vicente Perez Rosales, with German immigrants who had come to colonize the area of Llanquihue. It grew very quickly while giving services as the center of the colonized territory, and at the arrival of the railway in 1912, it gained a new impulse as a stop on the way to Chiloe and Magallanes. It has an estimated population of 100,000 people. The cultivation of salmon has produced an important growth since 1985, together with an important number of service industries. Puerto Angelmo, a small port in the proximities of the city is today the starting point for the fishing production in the area. Puerto Montt was destroyed and then rebuilt after the earthquake in 1960. Today it offers an ideal situation for tourists who choose it as their vacation spot.
You ca visit the beautiful Petrohue Waterfalls.
It was formed hundreds of centuries ago by volatile volcanoes and now today it
is one of the most breathtaking places in Chile.
Another wonderful natural site is the Volcan Osorno. Which is a volcano that is
snowcapped and overlooks a huge lake. The volcano also has the perfect shape of
a cone which is another amazing feat by mother nature.
