Overview

Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is a city in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the largest urban agglomeration in Kerala and one of the primary seaports of the country. The population of the city is roughly over 1,400,000. Kochi was the center of Indian spice trade for many centuries, and was known to the Yavanas, Arabs and Chinese since ancient times. The economy of the city can be classified as a business economy with emphasis on the service sector. Key business areas are gold and textile retail, seafood and spices export. Tourism and information technology is also a booming industry.

Things to Do

Catch a cricket match as well as football matches while you are here. A great place to see those sports is at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium. This stadium is the largest in Asia and can hold over 60,000 spectators. It also has an indoor facility where tennis, badminton, basketball, and table tennis matches are held.

Visit St. Francis Church which is the oldest church in India. The church was built in 1503 and was later restored in 1779. Beautiful architecture makes this place a perfect photo opportunity.
