Kochi, formerly known as Cochin, is a city in the Indian state of Kerala. It is the largest urban agglomeration in Kerala and one of the primary seaports of the country. The population of the city is roughly over 1,400,000. Kochi was the center of Indian spice trade for many centuries, and was known to the Yavanas, Arabs and Chinese since ancient times.
