Until a few decades ago Porto Belo was a small fishing village but its beautiful beaches could not be kept a secret for long. Now many tourists flock to Porto Belo for holidays or just to escape from daily life. The village itself is quaint but the surrounding beach community is the focal point. Porto Belo's weather is tropical year around. Wear lots of sunscreen! The official language is Portuguese and the currency is the Brazilian Real, but U.S. dollars are widely accepted.
Of course the main attraction in
Porto Belo is the fabulous beaches. The sand is so white and fine when walking
on it feels like you are walking on powder. Bombas Beach is the closest beach to
town and is also the busiest beach. You can enjoy sun bathing or any of
the many beach activities they have to offer. Everyone loves the nautical
sports Porto Belo has to offer; jet skiing, boat rides, and water skiing, just
to name a few. Also if you like to explore you can take a boat out and see
the beautiful reefs. If you are looking for a more secluded beach then go
to Quatro Ilhas, it is not overfilled with people. You will have more
tranquility and space to sun-bathe.
If you want more to do then walk on the beach, you will enjoy the quaint shops
of Porto Belo. Boutiques offer such crafts as; wood carvings, paintings,
art, beach wear and equipment, as well as locally crafted jewelry.
