Overview

Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands, which are located in the Mediterranean Sea and are part of Spain. Like the other Balearic Islands Mallorca, is a popular tourist destination. In the United Kingdom and Germany, where package tourism to Mallorca has been popular since the 1960s, it has become a synonym for mass tourism. The name Mallorca derives from Latin "insula maior". Mallorca's airport is built in 1960, and that is when the tourism began to replace agriculture and fishing as Mallorca's main source of income. After Franco's death in 1975, Prince Juan Carlos takes the throne, and restores parliamentary democracy.

Things to Do

When you visit Mallorca you will notice a number of museums with fabulous collections of interesting artifacts and artworks. Here are two you should visit the Mallorca Museum or the Museu d'Art Espanyol

Then after you visit the museums you can head to the beach. One of the more popular is Contemporani Cala Mayor, where the serious water sports like surfing and jet skiing are held. Or go to Puerto de Andratx. This beach is specially pleasing because it is incredibly private and not known yet to holiday tourists.
