Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. It is also the third largest urban area in the country. It is a coastal city, situated in the middle of the South Island's east coast just north of Banks Peninsula. Named after Christ Church College at the University of Oxford, it was originally known as Christ Church, the name being abbreviated by common usage by the 1880s. It has a population of about 364,000 residents.
The Botanic Gardens is a great place to start
your touring once you get here. Here you will find beautiful exotic plants as
well as gorgeous lawns and gardens. The garden is bordered by the Avon River,
which makes this area very calming and relaxing.
A great historic site to visit is the Victoria Clock Tower. This was brought to
Christchurch back in 1860 and is now a landmark. The structure itself sustained
heavy weathering throughout the years, however this structure is still a great
place to see and visit
