Overview

La Goulette is the port of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. The Kasbah fortress was built in 1535 by Charles V of Spain but was captured by the Ottoman Turks in 1574. It is the main passenger and cargo port in Tunisia. La Goulette city extends along the coastal plain and the hills that surround it. La Goulette is an important part of the port system of Tunis, lying out on the coast. It is also a very vital fishing port, and the place has gotten a reputation of having some of the finest seafood restaurants in Tunisia. The city itself is no more than a pattern of streets with very normal houses.
