Overview

Syracuse is located on the eastern coast of Sicily and is the capital of the province of Syracuse, Italy. The city was founded in 734 BC by Greek settlers from Corinth. With over 125,000 people, the city is growing and more tourists are coming to this historical site.

Things to Do

Ortygia is an offshore island that was occupied by the Greek colonist. The Greeks fortified the island and also built temples and structures; which one of them is the temple of Athena and Apollo. This is a very historic site that should not be missed. The ruins still remain so photo opportunities are available throughout the island.

Another great place to visit while you are in town is the Paolo Orsi Archaeological Museum. This museum holds the most extensive collection of artifacts in Sicily. Fossils, paintings, and the famous statue of "Venus Anadiomene". This is great tourist spot if you want to learn the history of Syracuse.
