Overview

Marmaris is an important port city on the Mediterranean coast, located in southwest Turkey. Because of its location on the Aegean Sea, Marmaris is also an important tourist destination, as well as an important port city. Marmaris's chief source of revenue for the city is tourism. It is also a major center for sailing, possessing two key marinas and numerous smaller marinas. It is a popular wintering location for hundreds of cruising boaters. There are ferry services to the Greek island of Rhodes, and large cruise ships call at the port. In 1522 Suleyman accumulated in the bay of Marmaris a fleet of over 300 ships and a force of over 200,000 strong to challenge the Knights' headquarters on Rhodes. After many scuffles, the Knights had to give up and the Turks overtook Rhodes for the next four hundred years.

Make sure you see all the historical sites like Kaunos, Karmylassos, Castle of St. Peter and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.
