Overview

Mormugao is Goa’s main port and its district. Goa is a city in India. Mormagao was the site that was first elected to be the capital of the Portuguese Empire. The port is one of India's optimum natural harbors. As threats to their maritime supremacy increased, they built forts on a range of hills, especially along the coast. The town has some industries and not very much else besides the highly dilapidated ruins of those forts, and an ironic history, which classifies it as "the town that never was".
