Overview

Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland with a population of over 1.5 million people. Originally founded as a center for the Viking slave trade, the city has been Ireland's capital city since medieval times. Traditionally, a north versus south division has existed in Dublin with the dividing line provided by the River Liffey. The North side is generally seen as working-class, while the Southside is seen as middle and upper middle class.

Things to Do

A great place to take the entire family is to the Dublin Zoo. The park holds plenty of endangered and non-endangered species that are just stunning to look at. The zoo opened way back in 1830 with animals that came from the London Zoo. Some parts of the zoo still remains intact from when it opened.

The Spire of Dublin is a large, pin-like monument 393 ft in height that was completed on January 21, 2003. The Spire has a diameter of 10 ft at the base, narrowing to 6 in at the top. This makes it look like a giant sewing needle. It is the world's tallest sculpture. It was originally intended that the Spire be completed by 2000 in honor of the new millennium, but construction was delayed.
