Dunmore East is a village in County Waterford, Republic of Ireland. Dunmore is a very popular tourist and fishing area. Fish is an important part of the people's diet, and for hundreds of years a fishing community resided here. In 1640, Lord Power of Curraghmore, who owned a large amount of property in the area and built a castle on the cliff overlooking the strand. The castle has a beautiful sight, but by the middle of the next century it was aging and falling apart; now just one tower remains.
A site to visit is Dumore Cave which is made of
limstone and created over 300 million years ago. It contains about a 1/4 mile of
tunnels and passages with the deepest area is about 150 feet deep.
Come by Hook Head which is the oldest lighthouse in operation in the world.
