Overview

Dutch Harbor is a small city on Unalaska Island in the Aleutian Islands, off the coast of  Alaska. It has a population of about 4,300. The port area is on the neighboring Amaknak Island and is known as Dutch Harbor. Dutch Harbor is within the city limits of Unalaska and is connected to Unalaska by a bridge. Dutch Harbor was so named by the Russians because they believed that a Dutch vessel was the first European ship to enter the harbor.

Things to Do

The most important historical site here in Dutch Harbor/Unalaska is the  Holy Ascension Cathedral. The cathedral was completed in 1896 and contains close to 700 artifacts such as artwork and icons.

You may also want to visit the World War II Military Ruins around town. There is also a submarine dock being used to repair fishing boats. You will also see buildings with gun mounts still in tact. A great historical place to visit.
