Overview

Andalsnes is a Norwegian town in the metropolis of Rauma, of which it is also the executive center. Andalsnes has and estimated population of 3,500 inhabitants, and is located at the mouth of the river Rauma, which flows through the valley Romsdal. The railroad Raumabanen comes to an end at Andalsnes. After the German World War II assault of Norway in April, 1940, British troops landed in Andalsnes as a part of a pincer movement to take mid-Norwegian city Trondheim. The northern arm of the attack was established in Namsos. Lacking control of the air, the forces at Andalsnes were withdrawn in early May, 1940.
