Overview

Arrecife is a city in the Canary islands in Spain. It is positioned in the east of the island of Lanzarote of which it is the capital since 1852. The city has an estimated population is 51,000. Arrecife is also a port town serving to other islands and to Europe and mainland Africa. The main industries are agriculture and tourism. The Atlantic Ocean is to the east and southeast, the mountains are to the north, the hills lie to the west and farmlands govern the rest of the metropolis.

Things to Do

The highlight of a visit to Arrecife for most who visit is the Timinfaya National Park. This National Park is a volcanic landscape that has scarcely changed since its eruption in the 1730s and covers a quarter of the island's surface.

You can also visit the sculptures and constructions of Cesar Manrique, the local artist, which are sprinkled about the island. Included amongst these is the Jameos del Agua and the Mirador del Rio viewpoint building.
