Hygiene and Safety Protocols
The following policies have already been implemented across all Holland America's entire fleet:
Timely safety and hygiene communications
- Guests will find information in the daily program and on their stateroom televisions.
- Tips displayed on onboard digital screens throughout the ship.
- Daily announcements by the Cruise & Travel Director.
Restaurants, bars and lounges
- Hand sanitizer dispensers are in high-traffic locations, including all entrances to all dining rooms and the Lido Market.Guests will find information in the daily program and on their stateroom televisions.
- Lido Market hand sanitizer stations are staffed to prompt guests to either use the sanitizer or use the available hand washing stations.
- All food service stations, including Lido Market, will be staffed. Any self-serve areas that remain, such as condiment set-ups, will be monitored by dedicated personnel. All serving utensils in self-service locations are replaced every 30 minutes.
Housekeeping for staterooms and suites
- Stateroom surfaces and fixtures are thoroughly cleaned up to twice daily with particular attention to bathrooms, handles, and frequently touched surfaces
- Oxivir solution is used as a secondary sanitation method on all touch points after each stateroom is serviced.
- All guest corridors including handrails, elevator buttons and stateroom door handles are frequently sanitized.
- A nightly deep cleaning and disinfection process for all highly-trafficked public areas using foggers, including: all restaurants, the fitness center, spa, Lido deck areas, promenade, casino, medical center, public restrooms, lounges, bars, lobbies, elevators, atrium, youth activity centers, arcades and all crew public areas.
Guests with flu-like symptoms
- Any stateroom of a guest displaying flu-like symptoms will receive additional deep cleaning.
- All bed linens, table cloths, towels, napkins, etc. in the affected room will be laundered in a high-temperature sanitation wash and dry program.

holland needs more live music during the day.
Holland America line is a smaller cruise line and very elegant ship I prefer these over the large glitzy loud ships

Madonna, Our cabins were perfectly wonderful....perfect for a quick trip to the Lido, a simple push of the elevator button for dinner. And simple to find our cabins. Also, the fact that our 4 cabins were all next together added to the trip. Everyone found that $25 cabin a little treat....thanks for doing that for my children. I too appreciated the $75 as a cabin bonus, for bringing you 8 new customers.... Bringing our 3-generation on an Alaska cruise was a perfect celebration for everyone - bringing us together for sights, dinner and entertainment. Disappointed in the quality of entertainment
We have booked twice with Allyson, on a River Cruise with Viking which was a completely new experience for us from two perspectives: getting help with booking was new and Allyson was very patient with my questions and the process, and then booking what was more familiar, the ocean cruise. Now I know to call her when I see an interesting travel advertisement to see what is possible!! We were disappointed that the America's Test Kitchen classes were repeat from last December's classes on HAL--I am addressing that with HAL as to how a client can know before they book. Allyson had tried to help me get that answer prior to booking so that's HAL's responsibility I think.
This was our 7th Holland America cruise and our 25+ cruise overall. Holland America has three strong features. The staff is excellent in every way, the food is very good and the value is unbeatable. Several negatives included the lack of an adult pool with the teenagers taking over both pools with cannonballs and rough horseplay that made it impossible to enjoy the pool and pool deck. Also, the dress code was not enforced in the main dining room-we were eating dinner next to people in shorts and tee shirts wearing backward baseball caps. Entertainment was spotty. Most ports of call were excellent with the exception of Gozo and Messina (substituted for Mykonos at the last moment).
We have cruised with Holland America on previous occasions and we think they continue to improve. This was a GREAT cruise in every way.
Holland America Lines is cutting back on many services and features and no longer has the appeal it formerly had.

The cruise and Alaska were very enjoyable. Holland America is not the most luxurious cruise that we have taken, nor was it the least. All expectations were met and the cruise was a good value. While on the cruise, Norovirus was detected. The ship's Captain and crew took decisive and effective action and controlled that spread of the virus so that our cruise was not ruined.
Holland America provided a lovely cruise. They skipped going to Tracy Arm w/o any explanation. (If they explained, they did it in a way I didn't see. No one else I spoke to knew what was going on either. The weather was ok. So I don't know what happened.) They just didn't go. We were not supposed to disembark. So it wasn't a huge deal. But they should have explained. Second thought... I knew that this would be a cruise that was heavy on the older crowd (especially since school was in). However, it was significantly older than I expected. I went for my 50th birthday. I'd guess 90% of the guests on board were old enough to be my parents. I don't mind that so much as the fact that the entertainment was all directed at that crowd. I saw exactly 1 teenager on board. She said that she went to the teen club a few times after receiving info on it. There was never anyone there. So basically, I would not cruise with them again unless I found that they had things to offer me on board.
We were a group of 4 couples, all family. This was our first cruising experience and we all fell in love with Holland America! Their level of committment to detail and organization was unprecedented and appreciated. All steps of the way, we felt welcome and cared for -- the staff that greeted us at the dock in Vancouver, BC were cheerful and totally helpful. We were happily surprised to learn that Holland America had folks on the ground as well as on the ship to assist us at all our locations. Very professional, great food choices, entertainment, crew was incredibly attentive and helpful. It just couldn't have been better! We plan to cruise again with Holland America!

All staff were very helpful and professional.
HCL was very nice to their guests. If there was a problem they quickly solved it. We enjoyed the AUS/NZ trip. Both were very different. Had fun in the participation games and won 1st prize at the Marriage Game. We really liked the HCL singers who were real professionals and gave outstanding performances on both trips. BB King Band was enjoyable as they played a new era of blues. We enjoyed dancing to their music. The cooking classes with Amy were instructional and simple for us to follow. We will try her techniques.
This is our 4th Alaskan 7 day cruise on Holland America in the past 5 years. We must enjoy them since we have repeated the trip so often. I can't claim the credit, but every trip was sunny and beautiful! My husband in newly gluten intolerant and the operator was very helpful in keeping him on his special diet and still feeling pampered. We'll be booking another cruise with you soon.
